A GRADE
POOWONG got a quick jump on the Stars and it was a lead that, despite plenty of determination and effort across the court, was never closed in on. Becky Hower worked hard as usual in the goals and was well supported by Laine Eastwell and junior Abbey Kingi. Lisa Biffin ran hard and was awarded best on court.
Poowong 67 d Garfield 23.
Best: Lisa Biffin, Abbey Kingi, Sam Charles.
B GRADE
The Stars kicked off well after poor starts in the past two games and kept within three goals at quarter time and eight goals a half time against last year’s premiership club. Some under-17 girls confidently took the court while Jenny Law joined the team at goal attack, Chan Pumphrey ran the centre and the Bray sisters were again fantastic in defence.
Poowong 51 d Garfield 25.
Best: Milly Bray, Jenny Law, Jacinta Bray.
C GRADE
It was a strong start but the Stars failed to adapt to the confident, more experienced Poowong side. Tammy Louch presented well in goals and defenders Hanna Aarts and Sammy Barr battled hard against a taller, stronger opposition. Good midcourt running by Bec Singleton.
Poowong 45 d Garfield 8.
Best: Tammy Louch, Bec Singleton, Hannah Aarts, Megan Boland.
D GRADE
The girls went out firing and kept close for the first half, down by five at half time. Position changes and an injury left the Stars down by 11 in the third quarter and out of the game. Defenders were great and if the girls can sustain four strong quarters they will be a strong side this season.
Poowong 35 d Garfield 13.
Best: Jayde Hansen, Breanna Ralston, Katie Edwards.
E GRADE
A great first half with only a two to three goal difference gave way to a larger gap in the second half as Poowong took control. Tanita Bow and Bonnie Ginger ran hard in the centre, Britney Edwards, Paige Hansen and MaddySynan did their best in defence and Hailey Robb and Katelyn Vitiritti showed versatility in attack and defence.
Poowong 27 d Garfield 9.
Best: MaddySynan, Paige Hansen, Britney Edwards.
F GRADE
In the Stars only win for the day, the girls showed awesome teamwork for their best performance to date. Goalers Kym Diston, Molly Larsen, TylaMakai and Nat Zoljan were on target while in the centre Sam Zoljan, Emily Horsburgh fed well and in defence Katrina Guy, Maddie Larsen and Karly Bow blocked the Poowong attack.
Garfield 35 d Poowong 5.
Best: Emily Horsburgh, Molly Larsen, Rachelle O’Connor, Katrina Guy.
