Students went crazy for the Cambodia Day, which featured cake and donut stalls, a basket shoot-out, cricket competitions and even showbags, all organised by the Grade 5-6 students.
The idea came from teacher Shaye Bradbury who is teaching in Cambodia for three months, but she notes that it was the excitement and dedication of her students that drove the day.
“In the five weeks leading up to the event, they were amazing. They found businesses to sponsor the event and organised all their own stalls,” Mrs Bradbury said.
“Their families were so generous too and they gave a lot to make the day possible.”
Mrs Bradbury says that to help a country like Cambodia, which has so many incredible and resilient people, is invaluable.
“It’s great to be able to send all that money over to them,” she said.
Upper Beaconsfield Primary School also sponsors a child in Cambodia, and the day was such a success that Mrs Bradbury hopes it will become an annual event.
