Narre footy (club corner)NARRE WARREN

A FIRST-ROUND loss, followed by the Easter break and then the bye was not the ideal start to 2011 – but the Narre teams will come out firing this week against Cranbourne. The Seniors’ loss to Berwick was the only downside of round one as the other three teams had solid wins.
The under-18s then backed up in round two – because of the revised fixture – and scored a thumping win over an undermanned Devon Meadows 33.17 (215) to no score. Narre’s runners – Bobby Harvey, Lachy Moss and Dylan Quirk – dominated.
Four Narre players have been invited to train with the MPNFL squad for the VCFL interleague championships on 28 May – Michael Collins, Nick Scanlon, Lee Boyle and Jackson Parker.
Two of Narre’s under-18s impressed with their achievements in recent weeks. Captain Ben King impressed in his first senior game in round one and has been nominated for the 2011 Pakenham Gazette Young Gun award. Fullback Tait Sabec competed in high jump in the recent Australian Athletics Championships and came ninth in an elite field that included two Olympians.
This Saturday night, 7 May, is Welcome Back Wogchops social night with DJ Dean Scanlon at Fox Road for all footballers, netballers and Narre supporters. Entry is $10, drinks at bar prices.
Narre supporters and members can come in for dinner in the social club on selection night each Thursday with $10 hot meals from 6.30pm.
Prospective sponsors should call Steve Parker on 0411 647175.
