Quality pork dished out

PIG farmers, both large and small, will get the chance to learn about their industry at a workshop to be held later this week.
Australian Pork Limited in co-operation with the Department of Primary Industries and the Victorian Farmers Federation Pig Group is holding a free workshop in Gippsland on May 5, starting with a small-holders session at 3pm to 5pm and large-holders from 6pm to 8pm.
DPI senior veterinary officer for pigs, Trish Holyoake, said the workshop was one in a series being held across the state with the aim of assisting pig producers to understand and implement the Australian Pork Industry Quality Program on their farms.
“APIQ is the Australian pork industry’s on-farm quality assurance program that will enable producers to demonstrate that their on-farm practices reflect good farming practice for food safety, biosecurity and animal welfare,” Dr Holyoake said.
The information sessions will be held at the DPI’s Ellinbank office at 1301 Hazeldean Road on Thursday.
The session for small-holders will run from 3pm to 5pm and large-holders from 6pm to 8pm.
For more information or to register for the workshop, contact Trish Holyoake, DPI Bendigo on 5430 4412 or email trish.holyoake@dpi.vic.gov.au prior to the event.
