ROC’s Sharon Temby has been involved in her beloved footy club for years, whether it be as a trainer, runner or more recently, the club president. And despite being the first female president at Starling Road, it didn’t stop her from running into the change rooms to sing the song with the boys after their first victory for 2011.
“You can’t beat that feeling (of singing the song),” Temby said.
“I wished the under-18s played just so we could sing it three times in the one day, but we sang it for both the reserves and seniors and that is what you train all week for and that is what you do pre-season for.
“The five goals we kicked in the last quarter was spine-tingling, a gutsy effort by all.”
But after enjoying the first win of the season, it was back down to business for the busy mum.
“I am very, very busy,” she said. “The phone does not stop the moment I hit the clubrooms.
“I took over as president when Marty (ex-president Martin Long) stepped down and the boys have taken really well to a female president.
“The boys and I have a good rapport and they were actually happy about me taking over and helping the club move forward.
“There are not too many female presidents anywhere … but everyone is chipping in, including the players, and I couldn’t do it without their help.
“My life is full to the brim at the moment, but I am absolutely loving this role.
“I have been a trainer for the ROC juniors for six years and with the seniors for three years. I am in the middle of completing a degree, while taking care of my teenage boys, working as a nurse and being president at one of the best football clubs going around … but I love it.”
