Gators muscle up

AFTER consecutive 30-plus goal defeats, most teams have their tails between their legs – not so the Gators, a newly-formed side based at Fountain Gate.
The local Youth Girls team is two games into its first season and despite losing the two openers by an average of 175 points, members of the young Gators are just happy to be out on the field.
“They’re just loving it,” Gators coach Brooke Dabrowski said.
“It’s like a family-based club, all the other coaches from the other junior clubs are always helping out and chipping in.”
The side formed last year after a proposal was sent to the Fountain Gate committee to include a girls’ club in its program.
Despite only registering 10 girls by the start of 2011, the Gators board decided to give it a crack.
After a hefty pre-season, the side has grown to 21 players and includes girls between the ages of 12 and 18.
Although they now have enough players to fill a side, Dabrowski is still calling on more players to join the growing club.
“We are improving each week,” Dabrowski said.
“Apart from a couple, all the girls are new players … and we will take anyone else who wants to play.”
