Grant goes top of the heap

JAMES Grant won the sought-after monthly medal at the Garfield Golf Club on Saturday.
Grant’s card, which showed a nett 60 off his handicap of 21, was on top of the heap when the scores were in.
The runner-up and winner of B grade was P. O’Mara from Traralgon with a 62 off 17 and the winner of A grade was Steve Kohut (7) with a 66.
The scratch winners were Kohut 73 (A grade), O’Mara 79 (B grade) and Grant 81 C grade.
Nearest the pins were won by D. Craig (Howlong, fourth), P. Govaars (eighth), Ron Fielding (ninth), R Bruce (11th), Peter Frederenko (14th) and O’Mara (16th).
The second shot on the fifth went to Mick Adkin and the seventh to Glenn Laity.
Down the lines were Gary Scholes, Steve Fordham and Geoff Roberts 64, Pieter Vanderhorst and Michael Gough 65, D. Craig 66 and Tony Elliot and Harry Huyskens 67.
The women’s winner was Meredith Bowers with a nett 70 off her handicap of 26.
The weekly raffle winner was Ken Pettiford.
Thursday’s winner was Trevor Burnie (21) with 45 points. Runner-up Bill Church (24) 44 was followed by Ian Johnson (33) 43 and B. Bateup (16) with 41 points.
The nearest the pins were Greg Needham (fourth), Gordon Palmer (eighth), Bill Church (ninth), Trevor Burnie (11th), Quinton Wright (14th) and D. O’Brien (16th).
The super nine went to Bill Church, while the Sunday winner was Quinton Wright (29) with 43 points.
This week is the first round of the four ball.
