McManus clubs a state title

PAKENHAM Golf Club is in the limelight again – this time courtesy of Mick McManus.
McManus plays off scratch and he played excellent golf last Monday and Tuesday at Southern and Sandhurst to win the Mid Amateur Victorian Championships by six strokes, coming in with scores of 70 and 69 (five under the card) in a field of 70 players.
The final round of the 4BBB championships was played at Pakenham, with Jason McQualter and Scott Milnes with 145 winning from defending champions Clint Walker and Damien Pintar 149.
The day competition was stableford and the winner was Archie Lawler-Lobato with 40 points. The B Grade trophy went to Mark Woodbridge with 39 points and the A Grade went to Jon Game with 37 points.
The NTPs went to Brian Bateup (second and eighth), Clint Walker (fifth), George Wheeler (pro pin 14th), Bryan Delaney (16th) and David Nagel (second shot, sixth).
Kevin Booker won the A Grade longest drive with Mark Hatton the B Grade winner and Blake McGrath the C Grade.

Section had a bye, but Section 2 played at Trafalgar against Warragul and came home with an excellent win 7/2. Both sections look good to make the finals.
MONDAY
The stableford competition was won by Frank Carnovale with 41 points from Ron Seamer with 36. Rob Bishop was the winner of two of the NTPs with Ron Winsall taking out the other. The down the line balls winners were Ian Shennan and Cliff Pain with 36, Neil Currie, Geoff Sullivan and Angie Peluso 35, Murray O’Dwyer 34 and Leigh Noonan and Rob Bishop 33.

The stableford competition was won by Brian Bateup with 41 points on a countback from Stan Gilbert.
The NTPs went to Bryan Chittack (second), Stan Gilbert (eighth) and Brian Bateup (16th).
The down the lines ball winners were Naser Alicic 41, David Shannon 39, Richard Murphy, Glenn Charles and Keith Rice 38, Michael Bainbridge 37, Trevor Knaggs, Lou Russell and George Coffey 36 and Jim Gilluley, Wayne Knudsen, Rex Jobling and Peter Dempster all 35. The Wednesday Supa competition winner was Peter Dempster from Patrick Duane.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:WOMEN

The Thursday competition (second round of the championships) saw Elly Briggs the winner with 73 points. Liz Garvey came in with 76 and was the winner of Division 2 and Division 3 was Ann Bell with 77 on a countback.
The NTPs went to Elly Briggs (eighth) and Shirley Roberts (14th). Down the line balls went to Kerrie Davey, Marg Andrews and Norah Gasgard with 77, Joan Young, Anne Donovan and Shirley Roberts 79. All 79s were paid on a countback.
Pakenham Ladies Bowl was played last Friday with visitors from West Gippsland District and other Clubs from the surrounding area. The winners were the Mirboo North team of Sue Traill, Sandra Hughes and Jeane St Ellen, who came in with a top score of 115. The silver winner was Sue Traill with 40 points and the bronze winner Sandra Hughes with 38.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:CLUB NOTES

Sunday 19 June is the club’s major fund-raising event of the year. Tickets are $40 a head for a great afternoon. Lunch is buffet selection of entrees, mains and desserts.
The progressive raffle will be drawn during the afternoon. Tickets from the office. First prize is $1000 voucher with 10 $100 vouchers also being drawn.
Rodney Vincent is coming back to entertain the club on 30 July and tickets are $30 a head with finger food served at interval.
Wednesday night meals are available from 5.30pm to 8pm.
The first Wednesday night of the month is a roast carvery and the third is pasta night with three other options available for those who do not eat pasta). Other Wednesday nights are a la carte.
