30 years to 1981:
THE 1981 Anzac Appeal raised just over $1400. Berwick RSL appeals officer Jack Nobelius said the schools had once again given outstanding support along with many local people at the hotels at Cardinia, Central and Hallam.
HALLAM Racing club, an extension of Hallam Pony club for riders 17 years and over, had their first rally despite overcast weather. Another group was taken by instructor Cathy Revell. Riding club members learn about dressage, show jumping, novelties and theory.
20 years to 1991:
TWO girls in a set of triplets sported identical injuries after both breaking an ankle playing sport. Michelle Trotter broke her right ankle playing kickball at Pakenham Consolidated School and two days later her sister Malinda broke her opposite ankle playing warball.
GOLFERS from West Gippsland veterans won the Victorian Veteran Golfers’ Association district teams competition played at the Nyah Golf Club. West Gippsland was represented by Ewen Costain, Bill Line, Bill Kingston and Terry Goff.
10 years to 2001:
A TWO and a half hour siege at Catani saw police negotiators bargaining with a man who allegedly threatened his family and police members with an axe. The man, in his mid 30s, underwent psychiatric assessment after his arrest.
THREE girls from St Thomas Aquinas Secondary College created award winning pictures for the Warragul Federation Art Competition. Year 10 student Katarina Prskalo and Year 8 student Natalja Kennedy got first place and Year 10 student Rachael Sloane was highly commended for her artwork.
Five years to 2006:
BEACONSFIELD Upper Primary School’s $1.5 million upgrade of facilities was officially opened by Education Minister Lynn Kosky. The then 123-year-old school received the Government-funded renovations after 10 years of tireless work by school community members.
COLUMBA Catholic Primary School in Bunyip had a successful annual fete, with exhibitions including Irish dancing and taekwondo demonstrations. The Cardinia Civic Band also performed. The funds raised were used to upgrade and improve facilities and resources at the school.
