Kooweerup is on the move

KOOWEERUP is a vibrant and growing community.
And with the recent announcement of funding for the $50 million Kooweerup Bypass things can only get better.
The announcement was applauded by those affected by the holiday rush to Phillip Island and constant trucks cutting through the town on their way from Melbourne to Gippsland.
Kooweerup Township Committee secretary and Sybella Avenue resident Geoff Stokes said he was extremely happy to hear the news.
“We’ve worked very hard for this – the whole town has,” he said.
“I’m also just very pleased that promises made by Ted Baillieu pre-election are being kept.”
Mr Stokes said he would feel like a “young man again” once the bypass was constructed as it would make such a difference to traffic in the area.
“I live on Sybella Avenue and with 120 trucks an hour going past, plus the holiday gridlock – let me tell you, it’s not pleasant,” he said.
The town is also turning into a growing metropolis for the area – with the Safeway development set to be completed soon and the Cardinia council giving the green light to a proposal to build six shops on the corner of Station Street and Rossiter Road.
Councillor Stuart Halligan said the proposed location for the shops had been an unsightly area for many years and the new development would bring life to the town.
“Some of the shops in the main part of town are moving to another area closer to the new Woolworths. This proposal will bring something back to this end of town,” Cr Halligan said.
“There are a lot of exciting things happening.”
