Flood of thanks

THE Shire of Cardinia has come to the rescue of the Pakenham Auto Club – saving it from a washed-out season.
Organisers suspended racing after the entrance to the club’s premises started to flood – after owners of 4×4 vehicles spent hours hauling lighter vehicles to safety. The damage to the access path threatened to suspend the car club’s season, before swift action by Councillor Brett Owen saved the day.
Inside two weeks, the Cr Owen had inspected the site and ordered several truckloads of much-needed gravel to pave the way for a new entrance.
Club members spread the gravel … racing started just a week later and the season was saved.
Cr Owen received a warm welcome when he attended the race meeting – and took up an invitation from 12-year-old Mitch Garrad to be driven around the course.
“The Pakenham Auto Club provides a unique facility for positive activity for people of all ages and we were pleased to help,” Cr Owen said.
“Participants include youngsters from 12 years of age to males and females over 70.
“I was honoured to be a passenger with drivers from three generations of the one family. It was a fantastic family event.”
