A BREATH of fresh air has swept through Emerald Community House.
Mary Farrow is known for her community connections, knowledge and networking abilities and has steered ECH onwards and upwards during her time as house co-ordinator.
She’ll continue her house management committee and Emerald Business Group roles, but has stepped down from the co-ordinator post to work at Emerald’s Bell Real Estate.
Ms Farrow has left the position in safe hands with Lynne Trensky – a local PR and event management expert with a special interest in sustainability.
“This will be a good fit for ECH’s programs,” Ms Farrow said.
Childcare co-ordinator Jenny Garnett will move into a voluntary position.
“Running the childcare program at constant capacity is very demanding,” she said.
“I love it and am looking forward to a voluntary role.”
Qualified childcare director Carly Forrest will step into her shoes and is looking forward to developing ECH’s children’s programs, including a local school holiday program.
Lara Wilson has been the out of school hours care program assistant alongside co-ordinator Annette Campbell for the past few years, but has snagged her dream job as a primary school teacher and will leave ECH.
Long-time emergency childcare assistant Karel McLaverty will move into Ms Wilson’s role as Ms Campbell’s right-hand.
“What is important about these role changes is the fact that these are local jobs created and staffed locally, providing employment opportunities within the community,” Ms Farrow said.
“Working at Emerald Community House has provided many people with the chance to demonstrate their talents and strengths as organisers, managers, co-ordinators, community activists and program developers.
“People are sending in their resumes just to apply for volunteer positions. It’s amazing!”
ECH last year won recognition in the Emergency Services Commissioner’s Fire Awareness Awards for its bushfire planning workshops and online bushfire planning tool The Go List. The Go List was also nominated for a 2010 Safer Communities Award.
“Emerald Business Group, Emerald Market, EmFSus, PAVE and Funfest are all ECH activities that have contributed to a more livable, lovable Emerald,” Ms Farrow said.
“There will be continued exciting times ahead for the Emerald community.”
ECH is open 9am to 4pm, Monday to Friday. Call 5968 3881 or drop in and welcome the new staff.
