He’s on the boil. Leigh Boyle is leading in the Nightingale trophy at Cardinia-Beaconhills Golf Club.
LEIGH Boyle was the final man standing of the 32 qualifiers in the Nightingale Handicap matchplay event at the Cardinia Beaconhills Golf Club.
The final of this always difficult to win event was played on Saturday in good spirits against Colin Dell. Victory was claimed on the 17th hole, with Leigh defeating Colin two-up.
A Grade player Howard MacDonald (11) won the stableford competition on a countback after returning 41 points. Shane Stuart (15) won the B Grade on a countback with 37, while C Grade was won by Trevor Perrin (21) with 38.
Sunday’s stoke competition was won by Andrew Brewster, after he returned a nett score of 67.
Meanwhile, in midweek news, Arthur Bailey (20) won the Queen’s Birthday stableford competition with 45.
Tuesday’s stableford was won by Phil Read. Playing off a handicap of 12, he returned 44 points to down runner-up Peter Brown (19) on a countback.
Wednesday was 4BBB ladies choice day (Paula Rae day) with a field of 48.
Marilyn Ford (12) and Doug Rowe (10) won with 50 points. Runners up went to Helen Lange (34) and Andrew Lafferty (22) with 48. Of the ladies, Elaine Newman and Bev Eckhardt won nearest-the-pins, while the men’s nearest-the-pins went to Roy Solomon and Ron Ruth.
On Thursday, the A Grade winner in the par competition was awarded on a countback to club president Alex McKay (5) with +4. Jack Weir (23) won the B Grade with a score of +6.
Brian Czempinski may not have won the Thursday competition, however, he managed a bigger highlight, scoring a hole-in-one on the 15th.
