Choice and good condition

THREE hundred and three extra head saw 811 penned for the Wednesday Fat Cattle Market this week at Baw Baw Livestock Exchange, Warragul.
Demand is still reasonably strong as the better quality shows, with veal making to 277.2 cents.
Large pen lots gave buyers plenty of choice and comments were made on the good condition.
One hundred and forty three bullocks eased seven cents to 172.4 cents, with a top of 182.6 cents, two cents lighter.
Eighty heifers slipped 14 cents this sale to 162.7 cents and the top was 11 cents back at 210 cents.
One hundred and sixty nine steers came back six cents to 172.2 cents, with good quality pen lots on offer. The top was also 210 cents.
Four hundred and five veal averaging heavier with improved quality, did slip four cents to 207.6 cents but gained nine cents for the top to 277.2 cents and the per head price was $18 per head up on last sale.
Thursday remained steady on recent sales, with little movement in prices. Bulls lifted their top price three cents to 173 cents. The 16 bulls offered also rose three cents on average to 155.4 cents.
Four hundred and thirty eight cows stayed steady at 131.5 cents which was an increase of 1.5 cents on average.
The Draw for Wednesday 22 and Thursday 23 June is as follows: 1, SEJ; 2, Elders; 3, Gibbon; 4, Scotts; 5, Landmark.
Best price for cows was 167.2 cents with processors paying to 163.6 cents.
