Prices stay solid

A GOOD quality yarding of 496 head at Baw Baw Livestock Exchange, Warragul, last Wednesday for the Fat Sale saw prices firm to dearer.
With bullocks and vealers gaining good ground, steers and heifers remained firm on recent sales.
Heavy bullocks lifted the top price and vealers were consistent in quality and price.
Thirty five bullocks rose seven cents on average to 167.3 cents and made to 182 cents.
Eighteen heifers stood steady at 160.6 cents and with heavier weights rose $30 per head on average with the top easier at 177.2 cents.
Fifty seven steers were lighter in weight but also remained firm at 171.1 cents, with a top of 188.2 cents.
Three hundred and seventy seven veal penned rose nine cents to 215.4 cents on average.
Weights were similar to last week, condition was slightly better and the top veal was 266.2 cents.
The better prices carried through to Thursday with bulls rising six cents to average 162.6 cents, and the top was two cents easier at 182 cents.
Cows averaged lighter but the price was six cents better at 135.9 cents, condition was good with the top gaining 19 cents to 180 cents.
Only six bullocks but the top sale was 172 cents, and the average 166.1 cents. Condition was excellent according to buyers.
