A COUNTBACK was needed to decide the winner of the handicap division of the men’s foursome championship at the Drouin Golf Club on Saturday.
Rob Woodward and Peter Downward combined well to take out the handicap with a score of nett 71 and a half – edging out the youthful Harry Matthews and Rick Schenk. Jason Stirzaker and Mike Waring were third with a nett 73 and a half.
But Matthews and Schenk got their revenge in the scratch, winning with a gross score of 82.
A small field took to the course on a wet and windy day last Wednesday.
There were only enough players for one grade and the winner was Max Henning with 37 points. Runner-up was Woodward, 36, followed by Eric Robbins, Jack Henning, Stirzaker and Graham Moon, all on 35.
Nearest the pins went to Ian Hemphill (fifth), Jim Bransgrove (19th) and Shane Dwyer (23rd, pro pin).
There will be a par event at Drouin on Saturday.
