On the lookout for bandicoots

SOUTHERN brown bandicoots are being sighted in and around Bunyip and a community group wants residents to help protect the endangered species.
The Bunyip Landcare Group is hosting an information session for residents concerned about the furry friends on Thursday 14 July.
In the past few years, sightings of the southern brown bandicoot have increased.
“I’ve had more people telling me that they’ve seen them around Bunyip,” group president Sue Anderson said.
Sue wants people concerned about the future of the native bandicoot to share their experiences.
“We’re hoping that people come along to tell everyone about where they’ve spotted the bandicoots,” she said.
Attendees will hear from Rolf Wilig from the Department of Sustainability and Environment Traralgon, Terry Coates from the Cranbourne Botanical Gardens, Sarah Maclagan from Deakin University and David Nicholls from the Westernport Biosphere.
Native plants donated by the council will be given away on the night, and there will be supper after the panel discussion.
Children are welcome.
For more information, contact Bunyip Landcare President Sue Anderson on 5629 5587.
