Winter Cup heating up

WINTER Cup qualification was played at the Cardinia Beaconhills Golf Club on Saturday.
Played in a 4BBB par format, the top 16 pairs go through to the serious business of knockout matchplay, starting on Saturday week.
Warren Sutton (8) and Arthur Bailey (18) won the daily competition, which also places them as top qualifiers, after returning a score of +14. Runners-up were Leigh Jeffs (29) and Barry Pitcher (21) on +10.
Greg Hamilton (4) won Sunday’s stableford comp with 40 points – on a countback from Peter Murcott (32).
Meanwhile, Jeremy De Silva (9) won Tuesday’s par competition with a score of +4.
There was a four-way tie for the ladies’ monthly medal between Heather Hamilton, Ros Harding, Kerri Greig and Libby Michell, with -3. A play-off will be held at the next medal round.
Ros Harding won a nearest-the-pin on the sixth hole and Sharon Lowden won the 15th. The A Grade pro pin was won by Kerri Greig (fifth) and Sharon Lowden won the B Grade pro pin on the 12th.
More than 70 players entered Thursday’s stableford competition, with Phil Read (10) winning the A Grade with 40 points.
Ross Brown (20) won the B Grade with 44 points.
