Curly question for Gembrook

By Gavin Staindl
GEMBROOK Cockatoo president Steve Goodie has indicated his club may be open to discussing a potential move from the Yarra Valley Mountain Districts Football League to the revamped Casey Cardinia League.
While Goodie said it was unlikely his side would leave the YVMDFL, he could see the benefits of moving leagues.
“Geographically, I can see the advantages,” Goodie said.
Casey Cardinia League’s governing body, the MPNFL, is yet to contact the Cardinia shire-based club about a proposed move, but Goodie said if his side was approached, he would leave the choice up to club members and the committee.
The burning question for Gembrook Cockatoo will be whether it views itself as a team playing out of Cardinia shire or a team playing out of the hills.
“We have 100 years of deep-seated history playing in the hills so it’ll be up to a lot of people to decide,” Goodie said.
“Our lifestyle does drag us down the hill and we do have a lot of blokes who live on the highway and travel up here to play.
“It would be a massive call. But until we get an official approach, we are happy in the Yarra Valley.”
