Fair prices are in the air

SPRING type condition and fair prices were the ingredients for a successful Wednesday Fat Sale at Baw Baw Livestock Exchange, Warragul, as vealers and heifers remained firm in price on average and an increase for the top sale, and bullocks and steers rising in average and top price.
One hundred and eighty two vealers sold to strong demand selling to 267.2 cents to average firm at 222.1 cents.
Sixty steers topped at 184.3 cents, four cents up on last week and the top was five cents up at 225 cents. Forty nine heifers averaged 173.9 cents to top at 235 cents which was 30 cents better.
Thirty two bullocks topped at 197.6 cents, six cents better and the average was 187.3 cents, nine cents up.
On Thursday 13 bulls eased nine cents to 147.8 cents, one less bull buyer and lighter condition the main factor.
The top was 10 cents easier at 168.6 cents.
Three hundred and fifty six cows remained steady to average 133.2 cents and the best sale was 170.6 cents on par with last sale.
The Draw for Wednesday 10 and Thursday 11 August is as follows: 1, Elders; 2, SEJ; 3, Landmark; 4, Gibbon; 5, Scotts.
