A GRAFFITI audit conducted by the council found a reduction in tags across the shire.
Pakenham accounted for more than half of the recorded incidents of graffiti, but the Cardinia Shire audit found a 33 per cent reduction overall. In the past year, 303 incidents of graffiti were recorded.
Graffiti in shire townships including Emerald, Nar Nar Goon and Garfield were significantly reduced.
Council is now embarking on a shire-wide graffiti clean up.“Cleaning graffiti off as soon as it occurs shows a sense of pride. Council is taking an active role in addressing graffiti issues, but need the community to take a proactive role in removing graffiti from their own property,” Cardinia Shire Graffiti Reference Group chairman Cr Brett Owen said.
