Triple zero heroes

TWO teenagers from Pakenham Upper have received a Triple Zero Hero award for calling triple zero and following instructions correctly when their brother was injured.
Hayden Bryan, 14, was practicing jumps on his motorcycle with siblings Jordan, 16, and Rebekah, 13, in the paddock of their parent’s property last year when he fell on his back.
“He came up short in one of the jumps and crashed,” Jordan, now 17, said.
“The bike landed on top of him and he couldn’t move.”
The pair were among 19 children to receive awards from the Emergency Services Telecommunications Authority (ESTA).
They met their call-taker Tess from the Ballarat ESTA centre and Shannon Noll, who presented them with their certificates.
“(Tess) talked to us, told us how to keep our brother safe, to keep him still and check his pain,” Jordan said.
“She told us exactly where the ambulance was as she could monitor it from her centre and she let us hang up once she knew the ambulance officers were by our sides.”
Their father, Gary, was very pleased with their actions after hearing a replay of their Triple zero call.
“The fact that they were able to do it right and do everything that (the call-taker) asked of them made me very proud,” he said.
