COMPETITION was restricted but only because there were not enough cattle for some buyers to operate at VLE Pakenham.
There were only 552 cattle penned and a number of these were heavy steers and bullocks.
What was included, and did sell very well, was another line of supplementary fed yearlings, which made between 256 cents and 272 cents per kilogram.
These, and most other vealers and yearlings were two cents to six cents per kilogram dearer. The quality of the yarding was very mixed, and some prices were at best equal due to plainer quality.
Only 95 vealers were penned, and the best quality made 250 cents to 272 cents per kilogram.
Several pens of very good quality yearling steers sold from 195 cents to 235 cents per kilogram, and some of these were heavier steers that were supplementary fed.
Yearling heifers made between 192 cents and 216 cents per kilogram.
Because the quality was very mixed some sales of plainer shape and plainer condition cattle were noted between 140 cents and 188 cents per kilogram.
Around 100 grown steers and bullocks were sold, and prices were unchanged to four cents per kilogram dearer.
Prime C muscle bullocks made from 182 cents to 192 cents with steers to 195 cents per kilogram.
Some sales of grown heifers were noted between 155 cents and 182 cents per kilogram.
The next Store Sale is Thursday 25 August commencing at 10am.
Please note that from Tuesday 6 September, the sale of sheep, lamb, goats and pigs will commence at 11am until further notice.
