PROCESSORS pulled up short of numbers at the end of last week at VLE Pakenham and it showed in this larger penning of young and grown cattle.
The larger supply did include a good number of good to very good quality, but it also produced a few more plain condition cattle.
As buyers scrambled to fill their orders, prices rose by two cents to seven cents per kilogram, but some sales were even higher being up to 15 cents per kilogram dearer.
Over the 150 vealers penned, the quality was quite varied.
However, all sold well, and this saw the best quality vealers make from 250 cents to 283 cents per kilogram.
Plainer vealers made from 188 cents to 245 cents and most sales were four cents to 12 cents per kilogram dearer.
There were 250 yearling steers, and 175 heifers penned, and some of these were lighter weight supplementary fed cattle that made from 245 cents to 265 cents per kilogram.
Heavier supplementary fed yearlings made between 200 cents and 240 cents and most of the grass fattened steers made from 196 cents to 235 cents per kilogram.
The quality of the heifers varied greatly which saw sales noted between 172 cents and 195 cents per kilogram.
Approximately 200 grown cattle were sold, which also sold very well with prime bullocks making 183 cents to 199 cents and grown steers to 205 cents per kilogram.
Manufacturing steers made from 172 cents to 190 cents and heifers 151 cents to 180 cents per kilogram.
