Basking in book glory

BOOKWEEK at Columba Primary School had staff and students buzzing with excitement.
The Bunyip school celebrated all things literary on Tuesday August 30.
Students were enthralled by the performance in the morning from Perform Educational Musicals and participated enthusiastically, singing and clapping at every opportunity.
After play, students from Grade 6 provided each grade with fabulous activities on the shortlisted books.
In the afternoon, the Columba Writers Awards were presented and costumes discussed. It was so interesting to hear students talk a little about their own story as expressed through their costume and the items brought from home.
“I’m dressed as an explorer because I have been exploring my own world and now I want to explore other worlds,” Grade 3 student Willow Denny said.
The school awarded prizes as follows:
Columba Writers Awards
From 60 entries, the staff had the difficult task of selecting the junior, middle and senior awards as well as the overall winner whose name would be inscribed on a perpetual trophy.
The standard of writing across the whole school was excellent and the teachers were particularly proud of the quality and creativity of the stories.
