IT’S not just birthdays and other significant family events that have been penned into the Manning family diary over the last three years.
Take this year for example. As they flick through each page, the first entry might go something like this.
Saturday 10 September, 2pm. – EDFL grand final. Whole family to meet at premiership dais.
Tim Manning played his heart out for Nar Nar Goon reserves on Saturday as they won their third straight premiership … but as soon as the final siren sounded, his heart turned to his family.
“Yeah, very special, it’s my third flag in a row, which is really special and every year the kids get up with me and they love it,” Manning said.
“I’m coming to the end of my playing days, but I sort of want to ride this wave in for as long as I can, because we’re successful and in the earlier years we weren’t so successful, so I want to enjoy it.
“I’ll keep it quiet for now … but I think I’ll go around again,” Manning said.
Premierships are a bit like children…people who have more than one find it hard to split them, so where does this flag sit for Manning?
“I waited 20 years for the first one so that was really special, but this one’s up there, beating Bunyip for the second year in a row and the scores being so close at the end, yeah, it’s right up there,” he said.
So now it’s sit back and wait 12 months for Tenisee, 8, Summer, 6, and Fox, 10 months, before they meet dad on the dais again.
