EMERALD, Cockatoo and Gembrook residents are invited to build, shape and strengthen the hills’ arts and heritage sector.
Emerald Community House (ECH) is seeking people from Cardinia Shire’s Ranges Ward to discuss grants, resourcing, knowledge sharing, networking and resilience building at a forum at the ECH hall, from 7pm on Friday 30 September.
Arts societies, museums, collectors, photographers, gallery owners, artisans, craft and hobbyists are invited to attend, to contribute to a strategy to build the arts/heritage sector.
“Our art and history tells a story about us. What we do today is tomorrow’s history,” ECH chairwoman Mary Farrow said.
“The arts help us to transcend the down times, can reflect great joy about our space in which we live, and draw us together to build camaraderie and resilience going forward.”
The event is Cockatoo resident Carmel Duke’s brainchild and will allow people interested in the arts and local heritage to get together, build an alliance and strengthen their collective position in the hills.
“We hope to attract as many interested people as possible to contribute and express their needs,” Ms Farrow said.
The strategy will include funding collaborations, co-operative activities, the PAVE festival, local markets, feedback to the council, and tourism interests.
“Resilient communities have strong alliances, and we must ensure that we are working together to achieve what is important to the arts and heritage interests of the hills residents,” Ms Farrow said.
