A KOOWEERUP Pre-school boy has dug deep into his own pockets after the school’s new wooden playground boat was vandalised recently.
The boat, which arrived earlier in the month, had only been at the school for a week and was the subject of much excitement and anticipation for the children.
Director of the pre-school Marilyn Matthews said the children were very sad and shocked.
“Someone came in, stole the flag and broke off the telescopes and binoculars,” she said.
“The children were devastated – I hope they don’t come back and do anything else to it.”
Five-year-old Damian used the money he received from the tooth fairy to buy a new flag for the boat, which had been stolen.
“We’ll be taking it indoors from now on and we’ll have to buy more binoculars and telescopes,” Ms Matthews said.
The children will be having pirate themed parties next week on their pirate boat.
“They absolutely love it,” Ms Matthews said.
“Hopefully people will keep an eye out for this community, for the playground that means a lot to the children.”
