Light head pulls back prices

A LARGER yarding of mixed quality head at Baw Baw Livestock Exchange, Warragul, on Wednesday last week assured a bit of action for all buyers, with restockers mixing with processors to keep agents busy.
Better quality head were firm to stronger, restocking quality were firm on recent sales and several very light head did pull prices back in some areas.
A larger number of bullocks were penned, with the average price remaining firm for the 53 on offer, averaging 183.4 cents. Bullocks top price was 195 cents.
Seventy two heifers lifted their average six cents to 174 cents, quality was good with restockers prominent in this area. Best heifer made to 210 cents.
Seventy four steers made to 220 cents. Some lighter quality amongst the pens saw the average ease four cents to 187 cents.
Three hundred and twenty vealers sold and averaged 211.6 cents, marginally easier. Top processor price was 268 cents and restockers paid to 290.6 cents for pen lots.
Heavier weights in the bull section on Thursday saw 24 head average $50 better per head, although the average was nine cents easier, the top sale this week was 184.6 cents.
Seven bullocks were penned and average 172.8 cents and topped at 184.2 cents.
Four hundred and thirty cows were slightly easier averaging three cents back at 143.5 cents, and reaching 175 cents which was nine cents lighter than last week.
Condition was marginally easier, but results were more, slightly easier demand and the absence of buyers on the day.
