ELEVEN nominations have been received for the 2011 Star News King or Queen, more than double from last year.
Entries were received from various places, including Pakenham, Nar Nar Goon, Cora Lynn, Devon Meadows, Rosebud, Kooweerup, Warragul and Edithvale Aspendale, in a bid to win $10,000 on Evergreen Turf Guineas Day at the Pakenham Racing Club.
Clubs nominate a member of player to represent them and then try to generate as much interest and votes as possible before Guineas Day. The winning club scores a $10,000 cash prize, which last year went to Keith ‘No Worries’ Fort of Poowong Football and Netball Club.
This year’s nominees are Jackie Cammarano from Kooweerup FC, Wil Evans from Nar Nar Goon Football and Netball Club, Kristen Grainger from Devon Meadows Football and Netball Club, Chris Blackwood from Warragul Football and Netball Club, Frank Ramsdale from Cora Lynn FC, Sharon Temby from ROC FC, Joel Dalton from Edithvale Aspendale FC, Lauren Cherry from Pakenham Football and Netball Club, Brad Sheehan from St Francis Xavier Old Collegians FC, Carolyn Goodie from Gembrook Cockatoo Football-Netball Club and Lauren Robinson from Rosebud Football and Netball Club.
All nominees will be profiled in next week’s Gazette. Voting for the Star News King or Queen is open and will close on Friday, 7 October. The winner will be announced at the Evergreen Turf Guineas Day on Saturday 8 October. Visit www.starnewskingorqueen.com.au to vote.
