RECORDS fell again at the Baw Baw Livestock Exchange, Warragul, on Wednesday last week as the top price for veal reached another high as N. and D. Renshaw of Lillico received 287.2 cents for an excellent 405 kilogram Limo.
The buyer from Drouin Quality Cut Butchers said that they were more than happy with the purchase.
Overall the market was a bit hit and miss, with good rises in some areas and easing for others. Quality was mixed with restockers again busy.
Ninety two bullocks were penned with good quality pens. The top sale was 195.2 cents, similar to last week, and the average was five cents better at 188.5 cents.
Only five heifers offered and they made to 164.6 cents and averaged 152.5 cents. Quality was plain to average.
Sixty seven steers eased on the back of quality in the lighter end with the average slipping three cents to 184.2 cents.
The top steer price was on par with last week at 219.6 cents.
One hundred and fifty nine veal sold to very strong demand with quality in the top end holding good prices, and a percentage of dairy cross in the lighter end which although were of fair quality attracted less attention this week and eases slightly in value.
This week vealers averaged 204.9 cents and, as mentioned, topped at 287.2 cents.
Nineteen bulls sold on Thursday and weights and quality were up on recent sales. This reflected in the prices with the average 11 cents up at 173.1 cents and the top bull made to 197.6 cents.
Twelve bullocks were also up 11 cents to average 183.5 cents, with a top price of 187.6 cents which was up three cents on the previous sale.
Two hundred and ninety seven cows again followed trend with the best price reaching 187.6 cents.
This was 12 cents better, plainer quality cows eased in value and this pulled the average back three cents to 140.5 cents.
