OFTEN it seems children grow out of clothes before they get the chance to wear them, so two young mums decided to throw a baby and kids market to sell new and used clothes as well as handmade favourites.
Leah Solohub and Leah Kyeton organised the Pakenham Baby and Kids Market at the Salvataion Army hall in Bald Hill road on Saturday.
The market had 27 stalls from local businesses, a jumping castle for the kids and showbags for parents.
Two hundred and fifty dollars was donated to the Salvation Army corps.
“Pakenham was crying out for this sort of thing. I’m from Cranbourne and we have the facilities whereas Pakenham just doesn’t have as much of that,” Leah Solohub said.
The Cranbourne mum and her friend run a small events company, Concepts by Purple Pig, which started in March.
They decided that Pakenham was the perfect place to hold a market with new families moving into the shire everyday.
“So we had handmade and new items for sale, about 25 per cent of what was sold was preloved items,” she said.
The raffle prize included RoseBerry Bay soaps, Babushka designs and wall decorations from the Wall Sticker company.
“With more than 200 families through the door on Saturday and the beautiful weather we couldn’t have asked for much better.
“The Pakenham Baby Show also ran between 11am and 12:30pm. The baby show was a huge draw card for the market with more than 30 beautiful prince and princesses,” she said.
The market was a success and the working mums hope to run more community events in the coming months.
“We really did have an excellent day, exhausting but excellent. All of our stallholders were happy with the turnout and we had many positive comments from shoppers on the day. All round, extremely worth the time and effort.”
