THIS may well be the last edition the Pakenham Gazette for a while.
A letter sent to the paper has revealed that we have won $1.31 million. Unfortunately, that’s in US dollars. Regardless of the exchange rate, however, we are thrilled to be notified of our win by the Microsoft International Commission in Madrid. Apparently, it was part of the commission’s “yearly international promotion program, which is conducted twice a year”. Que?
Managing director Sanchez Perez Coto has asked us to keep the win under our hats until the “claim has been processed and your money remitted to your nominated account as this is part of our security protocol … to avoid unscrupulous act by non-participants taking advantage of this program.”
Phew, lucky they are protecting us from unscrupulous people. After further reflection, The Gazette has decided not to send its bank account details.
The scams out there seems to be never-ending – this one just the latest in a long line of bogus schemes aimed at duping cash and confidential details out of vulnerable people. Anyone who receives a bogus-looking or sounding invitation like this should throw it in the bin or drop it around to the local police station.
