Pepi’s land for sale

– Melissa Meehan
CARDINIA councillors this week resolved to put in motion plans to sell part of the former Pepi’s Land in Emerald.
The often contentious use of the land has had a chequered past, with the council selling the site in 2004 to Lucas Land Co., before purchasing the land back in 2010 on the basis that the council would subdivide the land and sell two lots in order to offset some of the costs of the purchase.
Councillors agreed to publish a notice in local papers in Emerald advising of the proposal.
Councillor Ed Chatwin said the sale of the land had always been on the cards and looked forward to the council developing the left over land as an open public space.
“We will develop it in the next 25 years,” he said.
“I look forward to a bowling green, and other open spaces in the area.”
