THERE’S a “dirty great hole” out the front of Ken Robinson’s driveway.
The Lang Lang resident said the Cardinia Shire Council was “too casual” when it came to fixing the gaping hole in the gravel near his house on the McDonalds Track.
“It’s right in the curb there, you can’t drive across it,” he said.
The pensioner said he had contacted the council on numerous occasions before calling Mayor George Blenkhorn in a last-ditch effort to fix the problem.
“I first contacted the council on Thursday 17 November and they came out that Friday,” Mr Robinson said.
“But the guy who came out said that he couldn’t do anything.”
Over the weekend, Mr Robinson was anxious that the downpour would make it hard for motorists to see the sunken stretch of road.
It’s a situation that he’s been dealing with for more than two months.
“A few months ago, a grader had been through, and I think the blade was dug in too deep and has gone straight through the gravel,” Mr Robinson said.
Since then, he said that the road had eroded, and that he was forced to drive over his neighbour’s property to leave his house.
Mr Robinson was told by the council that a grader would not be available for two to three weeks, despite work scheduled to be done in Lang Lang East next week.
“They’ll probably drive right past my property. You must get a grader on a wish list or something.”
He said he was worried about his visitors panicking about whether to turn into his driveway.
“I don’t want anyone to come across it in the last minute.
“You don’t want to be on McDonalds Track on the road and sitting there deciding if you can drive over it or not,” he said.
“It’s a major thoroughfare for sand trucks and it’s very dangerous.”
Mr Robinson was pleased that Port Ward councillor Stuart Halligan had spoken to him on Monday and advised that the operations department was looking into it.
He’s giving the council until the end of the week before he orders his own gravel to fill it.
“I’ll wait to the end of the week, I can’t put up with it anymore.”
