THE Cardinia Waters Bowls Club split its two matches right down the middle last week with an away loss on Tuesday made up for with a strong win at home on Saturday.

The Tuesday side travelled to Mordialloc with a strong team but were defeated on all three rinks. Despite the loss they still hold top place on the ladder at the end of the first round. The scores were Beryl McFarlane, Lindsay Cameron, Bryan Stevens and skipper Marion Stevens lost 13-20. Dennis Patmore, Rae Richardson, Stuart Tokely with skipper Wendy Titcombe lost 13-21 while Fiona Sampson, Anna Barrie, Pat Hutchinson and skipper Jim Barrie went down 16-19, an overall score of 42-60. Perhaps this is what we need to expect when a team keeps on winning, other clubs will take it more seriously and field stronger teams, the price of success.

After two washouts, the Saturday team were pleased to have a dry day when they travelled to Oakleigh, a team they had beaten easily in round one. The home ground advantage must have worked for the Oakleigh side as they were able to win two rinks against their undefeated opponents, but still lost 64-93.
Cardinia Waters’ best winning rink was skipped by John Van Vugt with Gunter Baumbach, John Cazaly and Jim Barrie all playing well and winning 34-8. Skipper Lindsay Cameron with Brian Byrne, Wendy Titcombe and Bill Hite also had a good win 28-9. Skipper Bryan Stevens, Dennis Smith, John Hutchinson and Doug Richardson were narrowly beaten 16-9 while Alan Brodie, Stuart Tokely, David Blake and skipper David Smith went down 13-28. The top of the ladder team are at home this week to Riversdale Golf and then travel to Burden Park for the final game of the year on 17 December.

For the first time a team of all Cardinia Waters ladies entered the Berwick Club’s, Lila Cotter Day which is their biggest ladies’ competition and has been going for 38 years. The team of Fiona Sampson, Rae Richardson, Anna Barrie and Pat Hutchinson (Skipper) were runners up on percentages. Our Village Club was well represented and promoted by these ladies.

The Club’s Monday Night Triples got under way last week with 14 teams competing. The competition will be played over 10 weeks with a break for the festive season.
