Leaders stay at the top

CARDINIA Waters’ Saturday team ended the year as undefeated ladder leaders with a hard fought 77 to 67 win at Burden Park last week.
Best rink was Bryan Stevens’s with Dennis Smith, Doug Richardson and Chris Mulcock winning 26 to 13.
Lindsay Cameron also skipped his team of Brian Byrne, Wendy Titcombe and Bill Hite to a good win 22 to 13 while John Van Vugt’s four had a 17 all draw.
The return of skipper David Smith wasn’t enough to return his team to the winning list as they went down 12 shots to 24.
The Pennant teams now looks forward to the Christmas break after a very successful first year of competition.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS

Back on the home green two very good matches were played in club championship events.
The final of the club pairs saw John Van Vugt and Bill Hite in a tense battle with David Blake and Alan Brodie.
John and Bill got away to a six nil lead after two ends but David and Alan fought back to level at 11 all after 11 ends.
The match was very even until the last few ends when some precision draw bowling by leader Alan and his skipper David saw then in a winning position, five shots up on the last end, and they held on to win a very entertaining game and the club’s first pairs title.
A few days later John Van Vugt and Bill Hite were opponents in a semi final of the club singles championship.
Both were playing very well and it was evenly contested throughout.
At 22 all it was anyone’s game but it was John who picked up a three to win a thrilller and he will now play the winner of the other semi final between Charles Stuart and Bryan Stevens for the championship trophy.
