Cracking weather for a cracking field

THE Pakenham Golf Club kicked off this year’s Saturday competition with the January monthly medal on the line and a cracking field of 155 players tried their luck in near perfect conditions.
Matthew Shores (11) needed a barrow to carry home all his prizes after shooting a 75 off the stick to win the medal on a count back with a nett score of 64. Shores also won the A Grade competition, the best scratch score for the day and the Super competition.
Noel Boyd could be excused for kicking Shores in the shin next time they cross paths after running second in both the medal and the Super comp. The consolation prize was a win in B Grade for Boyd who also fired in a 64 nett. Ray Milnes (22) chimed in with a 66 nett to take home C Grade while Murray O’Dwyer claimed third in the Super comp with a nett 65 to cap off a great day of scoring.
Nearest the pins went to Bob Moffitt (second), Geoff Percival (fifth), Tom ‘Ted’ Cassidy (eighth), Rob Sandiford (14th) and Matthew Hogan on the 16th. The best second shots for the day went to Patrick Farrell (third), Ron Carroll (sixth), Rob Sandiford (11th) and Murray O’Dwyer on the 17th.
Longest drives went to the sweet swinging Mick McManus in A Grade, Andrew Stow in B Grade and Alan McArthur in C Grade.
This Saturday’s competition is a 4BBB Guest Day.
