LITTLE Hudson Kingsley has an disarming smile and big blue eyes.
In March, the bright little spark will turn one.
But instead of a party with friends and family, cake and fairy bread, he will be the focus of a fundraiser at Pakenham Springs Primary School.
Close friend of the family and organiser of Hudson Day, Kirsty Wilmann said at four-weeks-old, Hudson was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis.
“I was just a friend that couldn’t do anything to help him. So I came up with this fundraiser idea,” she said.
The family-fun day will include rides, raffles, live music, stalls, a sausage sizzle and fairy floss.
Casey Jumping Castles, Animals of Oz and Animals on the Move will be there on the day to entertain the young ones.
Hudson, who is the youngest of four, has his good days and bad days.
“Because it’s in his lungs, he can’t be around other people that are sick. So for Erin (Hudson’s mum) going to the supermarket can be difficult because of the germs in the air-conditioner,” Ms Wilmann said.
Some days Hudson doesn’t feel like eating and it’s a struggle to get him to put on weight.
“He’s only little so you can’t explain it to him that he needs to eat,” Ms Wilmann said.
Since Hudson was born, friends and family of the Kingsley’s have rallied around them to raise money and awareness to find a cure for cystic fibrosis.
“Erin is amazing. We’re all out there for cystic fibrosis. Early last year we participated in the Great Strides walk and we had T-shirts that said Team Hudson. We try to promote it as much as we can,” she said.
Team Hudson are hoping that the little tot won’t need a lung transplant.
Ms Wilmann, who’s about to go on the waiting list for a new kidney, said it’s an important part of the fundraiser to get people talking about organ donation.
“It’s no one’s fault that they don’t know more about it. All it takes is one person to turn that around,” she said.
Hudson Day is planned for Saturday 3 March from 12pm to 5pm.
“We’re seeking sponsors in the area because we’re just starting out. As a local business owner myself, I’m big on local companies. That’s why I’ve spoken to people in the Cardinia Shire to help us out,” Ms Wilmann said.
Business owners wanting to get involved in the Hudson Day fundraiser should get in touch through the Facebook event.
