CARDINIA Waters Saturday pennant side carried on from where they ended 2011 with a resounding 69 shot victory over Beaumaris.
Playing at home the undefeated team started slowly but soon forged ahead and all four rinks had easy wins. The biggest win was skipped by Bryan Stevens with John Cazaly, Doug Richardson and Marion Stevens all playing well to record a 36 to 9 score line.
Jim Barrie was promoted to skipper due to the absence of David Smith and David Blake and proved he was up to the job when he guided his team of Dennis Smith, Alan Brodie and Chris Mulcock to a 38 to 18 win. Skipper John Van Vugt with Gunter Baumbach, John Hutchinson and Cliff Heath were 28 to 17 victors while Lindsay Cameron had a similar score line of 29 to 18 with his rink of Brian Byrne, Wendy Titcombe and Bill Hite.
With five games remaining before finals including two home games the club is hopeful of retaining top position on the ladder and will travel to Chelsea this week.
The inaugural Club Singles Championships have been played and the winners were the dynamic husband and wife duo of Bryan and Marion Stevens. Their opponents in John Van Vugt and Pat Hutchinson had days they would both like to forget with the winning score in both games being 25 shots to 3. The runners-up were never able to get into the game with both Bryan and Marion in very good form on the day.
The minor Championship is reaching its final stages with some of our newer bowlers showing excellent form which is good for the future of the Club.
