CARDINIA Shire Council is calling on Kooweerup residents to join a reference group as part of the township strategy review.
The current strategy was adopted in January 2000, and the council began a review in February 2010 with a community workshop.
Strategic Planner Phil Jackson said new members were needed to act as representatives for the Kooweerup community.
“The reference group is seeking expressions of interest from new members with fresh ideas and insights to contribute to the review, which will set the direction for development of the township for the next 10 plus years,” Mr Jackson said.
The reference group meets fortnightly on a Wednesday afternoon from 3pm to 5pm at the Kooweerup Community Centre.
“The reference group will be kept informed and will be consulted by council officers throughout the remainder of the review process, with the project expected to be completed by May this year,” Mr Jackson said.
“Council will work with the members to ensure that the group’s concerns and aspirations as representatives of the Kooweerup community are directly reflected in the strategy developed.”
Once it is reviewed, the strategy will provide clear directions in the key areas of residential development, economic development, community development, traffic and transport, physical infrastructure, open space, environment and town centre urban design for the township.
Expressions of interest to join the reference group can be obtained by calling Mr Jackson at the council on 1300 787 624 or by via email at p.jackson@cardinia.vic.gov.au
