THE “CRASH BANG WALLOP” of Twenty20 cricket will be on full display at the two Officer grounds this Sunday when four of West Gippsland’s best teams battle it out for the Kookaburra Cup.
Dual semi-finals will explode into action at 11am when the Tooradin Seagulls and Kooweerup Demons take to the No. 1 oval while simultaneous slogging will take place on the No. 2 oval between the Cardinia Bulls and Upper Beaconsfield Maroons.
The two victors from the semi-finals will then butt heads at 2pm for the title of Kookaburra Cup champions and the $1000 first prize.
The day promises to be a feast of hard hitting with ball bashers like Cardinia Cruncher Neil Barfuss, Tooradin Tornado Tom Hussey, Upper Beacy Blaster Shawn Flegler and Demon Dynamo Michael Giles all ready to wreak havoc.
The Demons beat the Maroons in last season’s final after consecutive wins by the Bulls. Cardinia’s Ben Darose has been the big match hit in the shortest form of the game making 78 not out in the Bulls’ 2008/09 victory and 61 in the following year’s final.
Flegler (103) is the only player to reach triple figures in T20 this season with Hussey (80 not out) hot on his heels. Koowee’s Matt Bright (4/15) has returned the best figures of the four semi-finalists.
