Olivers go north, games go south!

Long time Garfield favourites, Jim and Lyn Oliver, were farewelled from the bowls club recently.Long time Garfield favourites, Jim and Lyn Oliver, were farewelled from the bowls club recently.

IN A frustrating day for Garfield bowls on Saturday, three sides suffered tough losses and now each face mounting pressure to make the finals.
The Division Two Garfield side went down by six shots at home to Yallourn, the Division Five side lost by a single shot away to league leaders Neerim, and the Division Six side couldn’t do a thing right at Trafalgar Park.
Division Five powerhouse Neerim was expected to have an advantage over Garfield, playing at home and having lost only one game all season. With a single end to go, the visitors looked like taking the points. However Bob Hope’s side had a disastrous finish, going down on the last end by six and allowing Neerim to scramble home by a single point.
Garfield’s Division Six side was thoroughly outplayed at Trafalgar Park, with home skip Alan Smith playing well enough for his own team mates to proclaim, “This is the best we have ever seen him play”. Garfield was dominated on both rinks with a final aggregate scoreline of 29/68.
Last Tuesday saw the farewell of two Garfield Club stalwarts, Jim and Lyn Oliver, who are moving to Kyabram.
In front of a large turnout at the club, president Wayne Gunton thanked the pair for their contribution to Garfield bowls over many years.
