THE 26th annual Berwick Highland Gathering will be raising money to help vital cancer research.
The popular annual event organised by the Rotary Club of Narre Warren will be held at Akoonah Park, Berwick, this weekend.
Ms Ghirardello, a breast cancer survivor, is opening the games and will speak about the Remission Possible.
The initiative involves Ms Ghirardello and other cancer survivors attempting to raise $1million for Australian Cancer Research Foundation by travelling to Everest Base Camp, then trekking to the 6200metre Island Peak in March.
She will also have activities for children to do at the Berwick Highland Gathering.
Rotary member Simon Hall said there were a number of events for people of all ages to enjoy including a pipe band competition, a flyball competition, a black and white dog show, highland dancing displays, Scottish folk dancing, Scottish heavy games with the events such as a caber toss and shot put.
“At the end of the day, we will have the competition 56lb weight over the bar which is a great spectacle for all to see,” Mr Hall said.
There will also be a car display from the Dandenong Valley Historic Car Club with about 25 vehicles on display.
“We have lots of volunteers coming together on the day to make the event happen, and I thank all of them and the competitors,” Mr Hall said.
“As we have for the previous 25 years, we try to put on a low-cost event, family fun event for the residents throughout City of Casey and the rest of the state. We encourage every one to come to Akoonah Park and enjoy the day.”
The events begins at 9am and goes until 5pm. Admission is $10 for adults and children under 15 are free with concession/pensioner being $4.
