Busy after quiet week

AFTER a short week for the last sale, yard numbers increased for both the Wednesday and Thursday sales last week at Baw Baw Livestock Exchange, Warragul.
Prices made good gains in some areas, compared to the last major sale.
On Wednesday, 44 bullocks made to 188 cents with the average 1.5 cents easier at 168.5 cents but the per head price rose $43 to $1046 due to heavier weight averages.
Ninety five heifers jumped 16 cents to 168 cents average, making to 228 cents. Restockers were keen on the board.
One hundred and twenty two steers saw restockers and feedlots pushing limits, with the average rising eight cents to 182.2 cents and reaching a top of 210.6 cents.
Five hundred and seventy nine veal gave buyers plenty of choice, with processors paying to 240 cents for the better quality.
The larger yarding did however contain some light condition down the line which eased the average 3.5 cents to 200.5 cents. Good quality veal remained strong.
On Thursday 41 bulls lifted five cents on average to 152.1 cents, and saw a top sale of 181.6 cents. Heavy weights were prominent in the sale.
Twenty five bullocks gained three cents to 166.5 cents, and their top returned at 172.6 cents. Good heavy weights were also noticeable among the pens.
A good yarding of 508 cows saw no easing in demand as the average rose six cents to 134.6 cents, again weights and condition were evident, processor cows made to 181.2 cents, and restockers paid to 217.2 cents for good heifers.
