Broken vow

WHO doesn’t love a chick flick?
A bit of eye candy, a love story and some tear jerker moments – it’s hard to stuff up.
The Vow really should have ticked all the boxes but it lacked an extra something I fail to put a finger on.
From the outset, The Vow has sex appeal in its leading male Channing Tatum – so a storyline was really secondary.
Which is a little sad, because being based on a true story the depth gets lost in the dreamy eyes and lack of acting talent hottie Tatum presents to viewers.
The film centres around a car accident that puts Paige (Rachel McAdams) in a coma. When she wakes up with severe memory loss, her husband Leo (Channing Tatum) works to win her heart again.
The film opens with Paige and Leo’s first encounter and there’s much to smile about seeing them come together as a couple. Then there’s the crash, and Paige wakes up weeks after, remembering nothing of her life with him as he tries to win her back.
His chances are hampered when her estranged and wealthy family show up unannounced and controlling father (Sam Neill) tries to push Leo away.
The yarn beggars belief – most girls waking up from a coma and being told Channing was their husband would offer no argument.
That’s beside the point, as the true barrier for this film is it’s PG rating.
There are some really interesting themes that are really dusted over and it must be because of its rating.
It starts strong, and wilts towards the end, leaving the viewer wanting more.
It’s not horrible, but not amazing either.
