Market steady as demand and prices remain strong

THIS week’s yarding at Baw Baw Livestock Exch-ange, Warragul, was similar to last week’s, with good quality again evident.
With demand also remaining strong, the yard average was seven to eight cents better.
Bullocks rose 16 cents on average to 184.1 cents.
The 26 yarded obtained a top price of 195 cents, a rise of 10 cents on last week’s penning.
Fifty heifers topped at 225 cents this week and averaged six cents up to 178.8 cents. Heavier weights saw the per head value rise $100.
Ninety steers made a good gain of 10 cents for an average of 187.4 cents.
Again quality was very good. Similar weights were penned and the top steer also made 225 cents.
Three hundred and five vealers were penned and jumped the top price by eight cents to 256.2 cents.
Vealers averaged six cents up, with an average price of 220.2 cents.
Average weights were firm on last week.
Strong competition for quality saw cow prices on Thursday rise five to 10 cents to raise the average five cents to 142.4 cents.
Speculators and restockers were again prominent chasing good sound milky heifers and young cows, with prices making to 192.6 cents.
Processors saw the good quality and paid to 178.6 cents for sound beef cows.
Forty two bullocks remained steady to average 168.9 cents with the top price making 189.2 cents.
This was nine cents up on last week.
Twenty five bulls were regarded as firm, although lighter quality in some saw the price ease one cents overall and the top bull made 177.6 cents.
