BEACONSFIELD Football Club wasted no time this offseason, opening the war-chest to recruit four premium talls to the club for its 2013 run at the Casey-Cardinia flag.
Finishing fifth this season, following their elimination final defeat at the hands of Berwick, the Eagles have decided to bring in tall timber to bookend their line-up.
On top of the impressive signing of Clint Williams as a playing-assistant coach from Nar Nar Goon, Beaconsfield also signed tall forward Nick Benbow, from Sandringham via Peel Thunder.
Beaconsfield team of the decade full back Kane Airdrie returns to the club after a two year stint at Moe and Beaconsfield’s literal biggest signing of the offseason so far – 6’5 centre-half-forward/ruckman Scott Meyer, who comes to the club via Williamstown and Wodonga Raiders in the Ovens and Murray League, gaining VCFL All-Australian selection in 2011 after an outstanding carnival and earning a VCFL Victoria 1 spot alongside future Casey-Cardinia opponents Nick Scanlon and Justin Berry.
“We need people down the spine of the ground to help the younger players and outside running players to have some tall power players which will lift the whole team upwards,” Beaconsfield president John Airdrie said.
“We realise the club has to bridge the gap – any side would know, recruiting tall players down the ground is important and we’ve targeted those types of players and we’ve been fortunate to do it so early in October to announce those signings.
“It’s a boon for our club and we’re still looking to top up the list further.”
Beaconsfield will hold their AGM at the Perc Allison Oval clubrooms on Wednesday 31 October at 7.30pm.
