By Nicole Williams
A FATAL accident on the Monash Freeway on Thursday morning was the beginning of a horror weekend on the roads in the south-east.
Traffic was gridlocked for hours when a man was hit by a car on the Monash Freeway around 5.45am on Thursday.
Police believe the 30-year-old Melbourne man had parked his car in the emergency lane of the Princes Freeway and was hit by a city-bound car after he had gotten out of his car.
He died at the scene and the driver of the other vehicle was assisting police with their investigations.
All inbound lanes were closed between Cardinia Road and Clyde Road until 8.30am, forcing hundreds of commuters onto the Princes Highway.
In a separate incident, a car lost control and crashed into a barricade on Berwick-Cranbourne Road in Cranbourne East around 2.40am on Sunday, injuring three people.
The front seat passenger was airlifted to hospital with life threatening injuries, the driver was also airlifted to hospital suffering serious injuries and the rear passenger was trapped in the vehicle for a number of hours.
Also on Sunday, a 54-year-old Labertouche man died after losing control of his motorbike near Warragul around 9.30am. The man was riding with a group of other motorcyclists when he came off his bike going around a bend on Old Sale Road.
Police are still investigating all incidents.
