THIS Saturday night’s Call to Arms clash between Cora Lynn and Kooweerup at the Cobras’ Bunyip River Road ground promises to be a real coin toss, with both sides carrying winning form into a blockbuster matchup.
Starting at 7pm, the historic clash will also be the first ever night match played for EDFL premiership points as star player-coaches Brendan Kimber and Matt Shorey lead their sides out in a battle for early season supremacy.
A bumper local crowd is expected to pack out the ground, with a gold coin entry fee going to the Call to Arms cause, following the recent diagnosis of a young Cora Lynn Football Club member with testicular cancer.
Similar to the pink shirts worn by some sporting teams in support of the breast cancer cause, the Cora Lynn players will take to the field on April 13 wearing yellow socks – with a message commemorating the occasion.
The club will hold an auction on the night of the game at a function in the clubrooms. All proceeds from items sold will go towards the Cancer Council’s Call To Arms – which started in 2006 after inspirational Essendon AFL midfielder Adam Ramanauskas was diagnosed with cancer. His team mates took to the field wearing yellow arm bands in a game against Melbourne – which became the first official Call To Arms game.
